At Whitfield Clinic we strive to make your experience with us as pleasurable as possible. In order to ensure that your procedure or that of a family member or friend is conducted as efficiently and comfortably as possible, we suggest that you familiarise yourself with the below Patient and Visitor Information.
Parking fees are;
€4 flat rate fee.
Please note that the first 20 minutes of your stay is free.
Infection Control:
Whitfield Clinic prides itself on its infection control status. We have our own dedicated infection control team that constantly monitor and eliminate any potential infection risks. Each patient is pre-assessed prior to their visit to the clinic, where regular health checks are completed before appointments are made. All testing for infections such as MRSA, VRSA, and VRE are carried out at our ultra modern laboratory. All staff are regularly screened for potential infections.

Registration - General Information
|
|
When you first arrive at Whitfield Clinic, you will need to
register for your procedure or surgery. You should arrive
approximately 15 minutes before your appointment time and
report to reception, which is situated on your left once inside
the main entrance and atrium.Where you will be directed to
the admissions desk. Your personal details will be confirmed
with you upon arrival.
When you have registered and paid excesses/ amounts due, you will be directed to one of our
patient lounges. If you are having surgery, a member of the
nursing team will greet and escort you to your room if staying
overnight or to the pre-operative area if you are having day
surgery. If you are visiting the radiology department for a
diagnostic scan, you will be directed to the area where a
member of the radiology team will instruct you on preparing
for the examination.
Whitfield Clinic is accessible to patients and visitors with
disabilities. Access for wheelchair users is through the main
entrance.

Admission – General Information
|
|
You may be admitted to the inpatient ward for your
treatment.When you arrive at the main reception you will be
directed to the patient lounge where you will be met by a
member of the nursing team and shown to your room.
All our rooms have ensuite facilities. To ease your recovery
process we would encourage you to wear something light and
comfortable. Please bring your personal toiletries,
nightclothes, dressing gown and slippers. Televisions are
available in each room. There is also a telephone for incoming
and outgoing calls at each bedside. A call bell is within easy
reach of your bed and in your ensuite should you require
attention.We encourage you to use the call bell should you
require assistance following your procedure.

Medicines
|
|
It is essential that you remember to bring adequate supplies of
any tablets or medicines that you routinely take to cover the
time you will spend at Whitfield Clinic. It is vital that
upon request you show all these items to the nurse or doctor.
You can store your medicines in lockable cupboards provided
adjacent to your bed.We also request that you bring a recent
prescription with you for medical reference. Please remember
that you may be told to stop taking some or all of your
routine medicines prior to your procedure. You will be
instructed to resume taking these medicines as part of your
discharge plan. If unsure, please check with a member of
nursing staff about when you should resume taking your
routine medication before going home.
If you have any concerns or questions about your medicines,
please ask a member of the nursing staff.

Money and Valuables
|
|
A small bedside locker is provided for your personal
belongings. Please do not bring valuables or large amounts of
money with you. Whitfield Clinic does not accept
responsibility for loss or damage to personal property of any
kind. This includes money, jewellery, laptop computers and
any other similar valuable items. If you do need to bring
valuables or money with you, please tell a member of the
nursing staff and they will arrange for your valuables to be
collected and kept safe. A receipt will be issued. Alternatively
your valuables should be given to a family member for safekeeping.

Chaplaincy Services
|
|
If you wish to have a visit from a Chaplain of your
denomination, please inform a staff member in your ward
area.
|
|
Discharge from Whitfield Clinic
|
|
The team at Whitfield Clinic liaises closely with community healthcare
professionals to ensure your safe discharge. We anticipate your discharge time will
be before midday. You may find the following checklist helpful for your discharge:
• Make sure that arrangements have been made for your return home, such as travel
plans and a relative or friend to stay with you;
• Make sure you have supplies of any drugs or medicines that you must take at
home. Check that you understand the instructions on the container;
• Ask for an inpatient medical certificate if you are claiming sickness benefit;
• Make sure you have received any necessary equipment required for your on-going
recovery;
• Make sure that before you are discharged you are provided with a contact
telephone number for you to call at any time after your discharge, should you have
any questions or worries when you are at home; and
• Make sure you are given an appointment card with the date and time of your
post-operative follow up before leaving the ward.
We will endeavour to inform your GP within 24 hours that you have been discharged
home.

Catering
|
|
Eating healthily and enjoying your foods an important part of your care. At Whitfield Clinic we make a special effort to ensure you receive food of the highest quality.
During meal times we will try to keep nursing or therapy activity to a minimum to enable you to enjoy your meals. Tea and coffee are available early and mid-morning, mid-afternoon, and late evening, as well as at meal times. Snacks will also be served with the mid-morning and mid-afternoon drinks.
Our daily menu offers a variety of choices from which we will endeavour to cover your dietary needs. If you have missed a meal due to your treatment schedule, we will provide a substitute meal for you at your request.
If you have specific dietary requirements and in particular any allergies or food sensitivities such as nut allergies, please advise a member of the nursing staff as soon as possible. Though you will be asked about dietary requirements during the pre-operative assessment, we would appreciate you letting us know before your day of treatment.

Visiting
|
|
We would request that all visitors to Whitfield Clinic use
the hand gels provided at the entrance to the Clinic to
enable us to maintain an infection free clinic.
As part of our infection control policy we ask that you and
your visitors are sensitive to the needs of other patients and
respond to any requests made to you by ward staff.
Visiting hours are from 2pm - 4.30 and 6pm - 9pm daily.
All visiting times must be strictly adhered to at the clinic for
patient safety and comfort at all times.We ask that visitors
refrain from bringing fresh cut flowers into the facility and
children under the age of sixteen must be accompanied by an
adult when visiting.
A sign in sheet is provided for to all visitors to complete on
entrance into the clinic for health and safety purposes.

Day Surgery
|
|
Day surgery means you will have your operation
and will be able to go home on the same day. You
will be informed if there is any special preparation
required prior to your surgery.
You will be given this and any other relevant information you may need when the surgery appointment is booked. A letter will be sent to you confirming details prior to your
appointed date of treatment. We will strive to ensure
that you do not stay longer than is necessary after
your procedure, but you are likely to be at
Whitfield Clinic for a minimum of 3 hours and
possibly longer depending on the procedure.
Our staff will keep you fully informed as to when you are likely to be discharged to
enable you to make suitable transport arrangements. These arrangements should be
made prior to the day of surgery.
Reading material is available in all areas but you may prefer to bring something
of your own to read. On or before the day of admission you will be assessed as
to whether you are still fit to undergo treatment. If you are not you may be asked
to return to your GP for further treatment. A new appointment will be made as
necessary for you to attend Whitfield Clinic for a further assessment prior to your
re-scheduled treatment or operation.
Depending on your treatment, operation or anaethesia you may need to arrange for
someone to take you home and if required remain with you at home overnight. You
will be told of this when you receive your appointment.
A snack, drink, or light refreshment will be provided for you before you are
discharged home. Please do not bring valuables or large amounts of money with
you. Jewellery, rings and body piercings must be removed before coming in for your
surgical procedure. We encourage you to wear clothes that are light and loose-fitting
for your comfort during recovery and your journey home.
Whitfield Clinic does not accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal
property of any kind. This includes money, jewellery, laptop computers and any other
similar valuable items.
When you are ready to leave Whitfield Clinic, you will be given full details of
your follow-up care and when to schedule your next appointment with your surgeon
or G.P.
